The following are some options that are available to you for purchasing an Individual Health Plan to replace the loss of your Group Benefits coverage due to leaving your employment or retiring. More detailed information can be obtained online at each of the respective websites. In all cases, family benefits are available and the policy renews annually. The applicant and dependents must be covered under the Provincial Health Plan.
Desjardins – Health Track Insurance
This plan is only available to individuals who have recently lost their group benefits coverage. You must apply within 60 days of losing your group benefits and no medical evidence is required. If family coverage is required, you must have had family coverage through your group benefits as well. There is 3 standard plan design available. Encon — Retiree Benefits
This plan is available to individuals who have recently lost their group benefits coverage and are between the ages of 50 and 75 inclusive. If you apply within 90 days of losing group benefits, acceptance is guaranteed, with no medical evidence required. There are three plans to choose from — Semi-Private Hospital, Semi-Private Hospital plus Extended Health Care, and Semi-Private Hospital, Extended Health and Dental Care. Equitable Life — Coverage2go
This plan is available to individuals who have recently lost their group benefits coverage. The maximum age is 75 at the time of application. You must apply within 60 days of losing your group benefits and coverage is guaranteed with no medical evidence required. There is a basic and plus plan to choose from. Great-West Life – Plan Direct/Sonata

Green Shield — Prism
This plan is available to individuals who have recently lost their group benefits coverage, with no maximum age limit (age 16 and up). If you apply within 60 days of losing your group benefits, coverage is guaranteed with no medical evidence required. There are 3 plan designs available to choose from depending on your needs. GroupHEALTH Benefit Solutions — Solo PLUS
This plan is available to applicants under age 65 and their dependents. No medical evidence is required if converting from a group benefit plan within 31 days of termination of the group plan. There is a choice of 3 plan designs, all are available with or without dental coverage. Additional information and application forms are available online at www.soloplus.ca. Manulife Financial – FollowMe Health
This plan is available to applicants age 21 and over, and their dependents. No medical information is required if application is made within 60 days of losing group benefits. Application can be made after 60 days, however, medical evidence must be provided. There are 4 plan designs to choose from depending on your needs. Additional information is available online. Sun Life – Health Coverage Choice
This plan is only available to individuals who have had, and recently lost, their group benefits coverage. You must apply with 60 days from the date that group coverage ends. On the date application is made, all persons to be included in the coverage must be under age 74. There is a choice of 3 plan designs available. Additional information is available online. The employer and the employees make tax-deductible contributions. The plan assets are locked-in and must be used to provide a retirement benefit to the employees. These plans are generally better suited for larger employers who want to help their employees build retirement income.
Group Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)
A group RRSP offers its participants group rates and the convenience of payroll deductions. Participants make tax-deductible contributions that accumulate in a tax-sheltered fund. The amounts invested in the fund are not locked-in and can be withdrawn at any time.
Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP)
A DPSP is a savings plan in which the employer distributes a portion of the company’s profits to some or all of its employees. The employees cannot contribute to this plan. A DPSP is a great choice for employers who want to provide their employees with an incentive to help achieve the company’s goals.
